One of the things I enjoy most about fall around Breckenridge Ski Home is watching the wildlife.
During the summer, seeing one or two deer around the property is pretty normal. But once fall arrives, the numbers seem to increase dramatically. This year, I’ve probably seen close to 10 deer around the property.
The moose are always around, but I definitely seem to see more of them once the leaves start changing.
Then there’s Foxy. Foxy is our resident fox, and she is always busy trying to catch anything she can find underground. She is fun to watch as she works her way through the back yard.
The ermines do a pretty good job of patrolling the yard as well. They are constantly moving around, and you never quite know what you’re going to see next.
That’s part of what makes being here so relaxing. You don’t have to go anywhere or do anything special. Sometimes you can just sit and watch what’s happening outside.
For me, that’s a big part of the escape.

We love Breckenridge in every season, but there is something especially beautiful about fall in the mountains. The crowds of summer have faded, the aspens turn brilliant gold, and there is a quietness in the air that makes this a wonderful time to be in Breckenridge.
